RBM Celebrates 60 Years of Excellence!






18 June 2025 marks a major milestone for the Reserve Bank of Malawi 60 years of excellence, growth, and service to the nation. 


To commemorate this special occasion, RBM hosted an Economic Symposium at the BICC International Conference Centre in Lilongwe. This important event brought together key stakeholders, thought leaders, and policymakers to reflect on RBM's journey and discuss the future of Malawi’s economy


His Excellency, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi attended celebrations at BICC were he  opened the economic symposium which RBM hosted as part of the celebrations


Speaking at the event president Chakwera commended Reserve Bank of Malawi for the great work in ensuring the stability for Malawi's economy and in addition the head of state pointed out that some malpractices that where happening at the RBM when he was just elected 




“…the vision of the MCP government that established Malawi’s institutions was for the central bank to be a pillar of our inancial system, guiding our economy through the decades  of change, reform, and resilience that lie ahead. In short, the central bank must be strong," he said.

Director General for RBM Dr. MacDonald Mafuta Mwale said that the central bank has remained resilient and focused in its mandate of ensuring price stability and economic resilient 


Reserve Bank of Malawi started working as Malawi's central Bank in 1965 several activities were organized as part of celebrating RBM 60 years of existence
